The Team
Our founder, George, is a PhD candidate at the University of Worcester, study muscularity oriented psychosocial issues in men. He is also a Durham University graduate (BA in Sport, exercise, and physical activity) and Loughborough University graduate (MSc in Sport and exercise nutrition) as well as an experienced sport and exercise coach. George has years of experience as a personal trainer and has provided strength and conditioning coaching for a wide variety of groups including some elite-level performers (international standard rugby and lacrosse athletes).
A spinal injury caused him to drop out of sport and led to the development of eating disorders and poor mental health from a young age. This experience created an interest in athlete/exerciser mental health which led to the creation of MyoMinds, a platform where exercisers can share their story.
Since the creation of MyoMinds in June of 2019, George has evolved alongside the organisation. He has a vast understanding of athlete/exerciser mental health, specialising in muscle dysmorphia, disordered eating and exercise addiction. George’s goal is to improve knowledge and awareness of mental health issues within the exercising community. He has since spoken on numerous media sources including BBC news, Sky news, Talk TV, multiple radio stations and serveral podcasts. He has also delivered presentations and lectures for a range of audiences at institutions like Nottingham University, Queens Medical Centre, Bolton University and for several NHS Trusts, on the subjects of muscularity-oriented psychosocial issues, exercise addicition, and eating disorders.
Through MyoMinds, George also consults on several research projects, including: the creation and delivery of training courses in exerciser/athlete mental health for the charity First Steps ED; co-leading a project with the Consider Male Eating Disorders Team from Nottingham University and Kings College London which aims to promote understanding of excessive exercise and eating disorders within a gym setting; working with the charity Mind, creating different resources around developing healthy relationships with exercise, among others. George was also a board member for the Applied Psychologists in Physical Activity Network (APPAN) during its launch year.
