Sarah’s Story
Hi MyoMinds! As a quick intro to my story, I have always been pretty uncoordinated and as a result I have never been into fitness or been terribly active.
But, as part of my degree I undertook a year in industry and decided I should probably get fit. Throughout this year I started to notice how much exercising improved my mental health and wellbeing, and that I actually enjoyed it!
Fast forward to my return to university, I decided to challenge myself further. I joined my courses IMS Volley Ball team , which went on the win the winter league and even joined the university's Judo Club 🥋 (something totally out of my comfort zone!)
Now, I haven't gotten miraculously more coordinated, my boyfriend beats me at badminton and table tennis despite playing me with his left hand. But, I no longer care, and more importantly, I am actually enjoying myself!
You don't have to be the best, and chances are you won't be. But being bad at something is just an opportunity to learn, something we should always be doing. We waste so much of our lives worrying about what people think and obsessing over a preconceived idea of what we are capable of. Imagine what you could achieve, and how good you would feel, if you used that wasted time and effort to learn something new? ️
